What is difference between grain leather and split leather ?

Pig hide and cow hide  are widely used in leather working gloves industry. Both these two kinds of hide can be splited to two differnt layer, we call it as grain leather (Top Grain) and split leather (Split Grain). Grain Leather (Top Grain) comes from the smooth external side of the hide, it is durable and soft, and it has smooth finish. Since it is more aesthetically apperling, grain lether is usually used for upholster of fashion, like wallet or shoes. Split Leather (Split grain) is the rougher internal side of the hide, it has rougher finish and it is not so soft as grain leather, but it is also durable enough. Usually, grain leather is more expensive than split leather.
